Galway Music Residency launches exciting new Guest Resident Artist Programme

Award-winning guitarist, composer, music educator, researcher and artistic director Marco Ramelli joins Galway Music Residency (GMR) and Galway’s Ensemble-in-Residence ConTempo Quartet to curate and perform in six concerts this November and December.

Marco’s innovative residency begins on Tuesday 1 November with GMR’s a special performance entitled Landscapes: Music for guitar and string quartet, launching the new Guest Resident Artist programme. The concert will feature music from Italy, Romania and Ireland, including the world premiere of Irish composer Greg Caffrey's Cúig Sruthanna (five streams), Luigi Boccherini's Fandango, Paul Constantinescu's Presto and Ionel Doru Popovici's Byzantine Song, performed by Marco Ramelli and ConTempo Quartet.

Speaking about the Residency, Marco says “In the following months, we will bring a kaleidoscope of music for the guitar and string quartet. I chose two themes to be my guide: landscapes and the power of the voice. These two themes strongly relate to each other and to the west of Ireland, where songs and landscapes are so profoundly connected from ancient times”. He continues: “I am thrilled to be part of the Galway Music Residency, a fantastic and innovative project. I am really honoured to be able to share the stage with a group of such talented musicians as the ConTempo.”
