Galway Music Residency’s popular multi-genre series 3 Kinds of Music returns to The Mick Lally Theatre at 2pm this Saturday 11 November. The series has been curated by musicologist Dr Ann-Marie Hanlon, lecturer in Music at University of Galway and expert on popular music, French modernism and cultural theories of music. Her research includes a focus on music and social change, and explores the ways in which music is utilised in a political sense in discourses concerning women’s rights and within queer culture in Ireland and in the U.S.
On Saturday 11 November, Ann-Marie has crafted a varied programme, which includes a triple bill of classical, blues and traditional music and is an exploration of the ‘duo’. Three pairs will grace the stage including violinists Ingrid Nicola and Bogdan Sofei of Galway’s ensemble-in-residence ConTempo Quartet, mother and daughter Irish traditional harp duo Kathleen Loughnane and Catriona Cannon, and blues duo Grainne Duffy and Paul Sherry both on guitar and vocals.
This series of events is FREE, family-friendly and donations are welcome.
