Galway Music Residency’s ConTempo Countywide series continues this November with a special performance at Claregalway Castle entitled Landscapes: Music for guitar and string quartet.
Following a sold-out performance at Saint Nicholas' Collegiate Church earlier this month, this beautifully varied programme of music travels to Claregalway Castle for a special repeat performance.
Internationally renowned Italian guitarist Marco Ramelli joins forces with Galway Music Residency’s Ensemble-In-Residence ConTempo Quartet to perform music inspired by landscapes from Italy, Romania and Ireland.
This free event includes the world premiere of Irish composer Greg Caffrey's Cúig Sruthanna (five streams) that brings together the guitar and string quartet in music inspired by the Irish landscape. Also featured is Italian composer Luigi Boccherini's well-loved Fandango for string quartet and guitar and two Romanian works by Constantinescu's Preto and Ionel Doru Popovici's Byzantine Song.
The performance takes place at 3:00pm on Sunday 20 November in the atmospheric surroundings of Claregalway Castle, Claregalway, Co Galway.
Contempo Quartet is the resident ensemble of Galway Music Residency and was RTE’s Resident Quartet from 2014 until 2019. Praised as a “fabulous foursome” (Irish Independent) and noted for performances which are “exceptional” (The Strad) and “full of imaginative daring” (The Irish Times), ConTempo Quartet has forged a unique place in Irish musical life.
