ConTempo Quartet joins forces with Athenry Music School and Sligo Academy of Music for a celebratory collaborative concert. This special event takes place at 5pm on Sunday 7 May at the Community Hall, Clarke Street, Athenry.

Talented young musicians from across the north-west of Ireland perform from the Athenry Vision Orchestra and the Sligo Academy of Music. ConTempo Quartet shares celebrated repertoire written by Czech composer Antonín Dvořák and Swedish composer Karin Rehnqvist. This special occasion will end with a rousing tutti performance with all performers joining together for a grand finale.

Athenry Vision Orchestra is a community youth orchestra with members from age 10-16. They rehearse weekly with lively discussion and much fun! Their repertoire emphasises living composers with a particular fondness for Irish composers.

Sligo Academy of Music Junior Orchestra is made up of students aged 5-13. They rehearse weekly and perform at many events throughout Sligo and are really looking forward to collaborate with the Athenry Vision Orchestra and The ConTempo Quartet.

Contempo Quartet is the resident ensemble of Galway Music Residency and was RTE’s Resident Quartet from 2014 until 2019. Praised as a “fabulous foursome” (Irish Independent) and noted for performances which are “exceptional” (The Strad) and “full of imaginative daring” (The Irish Times), ConTempo Quartet has forged a unique place in Irish musical life.

Galway Music Residency is proudly supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, University of Galway, Galway County Council, and Galway City Council.
