Galway Music Residency in partnership with the Estonian Embassy in Dublin presents a virtual performance of Arvo Pärt’s Da pacem Domine in celebration of Estonian Independence Day, on Wednesday 24th February at 1pm. The performance, directed by Peter Mannion, will feature Galway Music Residency’s permanent ensemble, ConTempo Quartet, and NUI Galway’s Alumni Ensemble, who will be brought together digitally for this stunning choral work. Each vocal and instrumental line has been recorded individually and will be expertly layered and mastered to produce a sensitive and unified rendition of the work.

Da pacem Domine (Give peace, Lord) is a choral composition by Arvo Pärt on the Latin prayer for peace of the same name. Pärt began the composition two days after the 2004 Madrid train bombings, in memory of the victims. It was first composed in 2004 for four voices. The composer has given his express permission for the work to be performed in this alternative arrangement.

This virtual performance is sponsored by the Estonian Embassy in Dublin. Galway Music Residency is supported by NUI Galway (education partner), the Arts Council, Galway City and County Councils and GMIT. Donations welcome.

This event will be broadcast via Facebook and YouTube.
